Nevada Livestock Marketing Delivers Record-Smashing Sale
I feel like I am beating a dead horse every time I go to write my editorials. I always write about how NCBA is working against the American cattle producers, the insanity of the 24-hour rule on imported beef, the abuse and misuse of the checkoff, government overreach and burdensome regulations, BLM red tape and livestock grazing reductions leading to catastrophic wildfires and the ghost town effect they have had on the western United States. I have written some about the feral horse situation and how there are no wild horses. Ranchers used to run cattle, sheep and horses. Horses were shipped to eastern markets by rail for the Army, pulling and for slaughter. The car replaced the horse, as a result the horses became worthless. In hindsight the ranchers are sure wishing they would’ve gathered them all up and given them away. I have written extensively about politics and it’s no secret I’m a big Donald Trump fan. There seems to be several in the agricultural community that are pretty worked up over tariffs, the stock market, government layoffs and more. Myself, I’m totally confident in the man and the plan. We have a smart businessman running this country. He knows what he is doing, and we need to support him and be patient. I heard a great analogy the other day from my wife, Rachel. She said the situation we are in right now is like someone deciding to go on a diet and then being all distraught the 3rd day because they have hunger pains and haven’t lost any weight. We didn’t get fat overnight. We aren’t going to fix these problems overnight. Nobody enjoys the luxuries of the modern world more than I do, smart phones, the internet, fast food, a house always at the perfect temperature when you come home and so much more. However, I’m not convinced that our lives are better now than they were 40 or 100 years ago. I don’t think a little tightening of the belt would be the worst thing for America. Going and cutting some firewood for winter heat would be good for the modern-day family. I remember helping my mom pick chokecherries and elderberries, then helping her can all that stuff plus peaches and pears and more. Never thought about it at the time, it was just part of life. I remember spending my Saturdays in the fall listening to Boise State football games on 670 KBOI and splitting juniper firewood with the splitting mal and wedges. I look back fondly on those days and they didn’t hurt me a bit. Interesting times we are living in and I’m extremely optimistic about where we are headed in the American cattle market and as a country. I encourage everyone to focus on what you and your family can do to be more independent and self-reliant. The government is not the solution to our problem. We just need government to get out of way. Until next month, have faith and stay positive!
